I can't say our comments will sway things; but I know they won't if we don't comment.

I had not heard about the chaplain on "ER." I guess I'll have to look in. I haven't looked in at "ER" in years - too much, and yet not enough like work. (I have a dear friend who's a forensic chemist who won't watch any of the "CSI's", either.) Indeed, it's interesting that they've added a chaplain. For all these years they've had residents getting involved in emotional support and social work; but that's just too far from real life. For all their good intentions (and they do have good intentions), I've never known a medical resident who actually had time for that kind of emotional investment.

"St. Elsewhere," so many years ago, added a chaplain toward the end of the next to the last season. In fact, the chaplain was a CPE resident. Her part was well written - she made some good visits, and some painfully realistic mistakes - and added something to the show, but it was too late over all.

Thanks for calling it to my attention.Marshall Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02807749717320495495noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20406961.post-48472536219225749872007-10-27T12:54:00.000-05:002007-10-27T12:54:00.000-05:00Thanks for these links, Fr. Marshall. BTW, I ...Thanks for these links, Fr. Marshall.

BTW, I really love your encouraging people to comment on everything! I think in some ways we've all become fatalistic about the large institutions and forces in our lives, thinking that nothing we say or do matters. But it does, so thanks again for this kind of encouragement.

Hey, did you know that there is a new character on the show "ER" this year - a hospital chaplain? It's a woman, and I sort of noticed her this week but wasn't really watching closely so don't know exactly what the character's about, but thought you'd like to know if you didn't already.blshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07627725321531151309noreply@blogger.com
