At Daily Episcopalian: More Thoughts on General Convention

My latest piece is up at the Episcopal Cafe on the Daily Episcopalian page. It's also about General Convention, in the context of my "Second Sermon."

While you're looking at my piece, take a look at the work of my colleagues there, and feel free to leave a comment (I know it's a bit cumbersome, and requires joining TypePad; but TypePad is free, and the conversation is important to us). We want to offer some interesting news, commentary, and spiritual reflection from a progressive Episcopal and Anglican perspective. Come and see.

Hi, I want to comment. My dad wants to comment, but we just can't get in. Frank

Jack and Frank:

To leave a comment at the Cafe, read this page. The essential piece is this paragraph:

To post a comment:

Visit https://www.typekey.com/t/typekey/register?lang=en-us
Set up your account. To ensure that you're ALWAYS authorized to post to the Cafe, include your real name in your registration, either under 'display name' or 'membername'. Even though Typekey says it will not publish your real name unless you choose to, the Episcopal Cafe's Ethic of Transparency requires that you use your real name in order to have your comments published on the site. You may wish to register an id specifically for interacting with the Cafe if you have a 'handle' you use elsewhere.

The first few times you post, it may take a while for your comment to show up. Never fear! We keep an eye out and have to hand-approve people their first time round. But if you start commenting regularly, you'll get a status that will allow your comments to appear instantly.

When you go to post a note or comment on the Cafe blogs, you'll be told to "login" first. Clicking the login link will take you to a typekey page where you enter your newly registered name and password.

There some general instructions, most of which amount to, "You can disagree as much as you like, but don't be disagreeable." You've already seen, I'm sure, that many different opinions are shared, and sometimes fervently; but everyone (or most everyone) manages to be civil.

They also insist on commenters using their real names. As the Editors say, "we hope to establish an ethic of transparency by requiring all contributors and commentators to make submissions under their real names." For folks who feel the need to use a pseudonym, there are instructions further down the page on asking permission.

Adding the Typekey membership to comment at the Cafe feels a bit cumbersome, but it is a free-standing web site, and not a part of a larger blog service as mine is. Thus, they needed the third party comment service. Please take the time to register, and start participating in the conversation.

Jack, I removed your comment only because you included your email address. I have that; but, the net world being as it is, I don't know that it's wise to share it with everyone.

Read the comment I left about registering at the Cafe. If you have a problem, feel free to email me.
